The following are examples of my editorial work, primarily in fiction. Each document is featured in a PDF viewer, and does not require a download.
In the past, I've freelanced through personal academic and social connections as a developmental editor, line editor, and copy editor. Those I've sampled below are excerpts in fiction, though I have worked with non-fiction in the past.
For examples of my work in game writing, please see the "GAME WRITING" section in the header.

As someone with a background in both creative writing and visual arts, my interests and specialties as an editor lie in elements most given to narrative, voice, or flow.
These include:
Fiction, Prose & Poetry, Characterization, Diction & Tone, Narrative Consistency, Sentence Cadences, Vivid Imagery
This is a project I did for a student a few years ago. It's a simple copy edit job with little to no line edits, and they had no specific requests. I identified verb tense issues and consistency errors (character names in particular), which I emailed them about.
This is a project I did for a close friend whose work I greatly enjoy, and who was gracious enough to let me use it as an example here.
This was a piece for her writing portfolio. Because this was to prose than short story, I was especially careful to preserve her style and voice. As you can see below, I marked basic grammatical errors and clarity issues. Other than that, I did my best to suggest line edits that improved upon her vision and carried out what she had intended for the scene.
NOTE!
Because I have worked with this author for a long time, my comments are very to the point-- a quality she prefers. For new clients, I am much more considerate with feedback and concerns. Please be sure to let me know what suits you best.
Like the last piece, this was for a writing portfolio and submission to contest anthologies.
My role in this project was to point out style edits, continuity errors, and confusing wording.
For this piece especially, where fragmented sentences were necessary in maintaining the artistic tone and cadence of her story, I made sure to keep these in tact. For those sentences, I only suggested edits that might make the subject or object of them more clear in context.
